„Rīgas satiksme” calls for Riga resident’s card to be received in time

"Rīgas satiksme" calls on Riga residents to apply for Riga resident’s cards and to receive ready cards in time. From July 1 new benefits and discounts will be available to holders of Riga resident’s card in Riga public transport, municipal parkings lots, as well as when using services provided by institutions of Riga municipality and its cooperation partners. To use these benefits and discounts, a person needs a valid Riga resident’s card.

How to apply for and receive a Riga resident’s card?

You can apply for a Riga resident’s card electronically (here, authentication through i-bank)  and receive it in one of “Rīgas satiksme” customer service centres or to order and receive the card in a customer service centre (see addresses and working hours here). You can apply for visiting a customer service centre in advance by toll free phone 80001919 or electronically here

  • Riga resident’s card is issued to persons having declared their residence in Riga or to those who own a real estate in Riga.
  • A person applying for a Riga resident’s card has to present a valid identity document (passport, ID card).
  • For the first time the card is issued free of charge; the price of replacing a lost Riga resident’s card is EUR 2.85.
  • If a person has a personalized e-ticket, it can be exchanged for a Riga resident’s card in a customer service centre free of charge. 

How to receive a Riga resident’s card that was ordered earlier but is not received yet?

Please email to info@rigassatiksme.lv or call 80001919. “Rīgas satiksme” will inform you where you will be able to receive the ready Riga resident’s card.  

Which benefits holders of Riga resident’s cards can expect after the 1st of July 2016?

  • One-hour ticket for EUR 1.15, valid for one hour in public transport. The price of this ticket on holidays will be EUR 0.60.
  • 5-day ticket to be used within 15 days, valid for any five days from a 15-day period; it can be used either for five consecutive days or for five days in any other sequence.
  • 20% discount on parking services in municipal parking lots located in zones B, C and D. 
  • Various discounts on services provided by institutions of Riga municipality or their cooperation partners. 

What is Riga resident’s card?

From the end of 2013, persons having declared their residence in Riga or owning a real estate in Riga can receive Riga resident’s cards. More than 340, 000 Riga resident’s cards have been manufactured so far. 

Riga resident’s card has several functions:

  • personalized e-ticket used in Riga public transport, including fare benefits, if the person is entitled to them;
  • e-wallet used to pay for goods and services (including parking) after adding payment function to the card; 
  • discount card for services provided by Riga municipality, its institutions and their partners;
  • social card – catering services for persons with low incomes who are provided with hot meals;
  • access control card – electronic key in dwelling houses, areas etc. 

How to activate e-wallet and why is it necessary? 

If the Riga resident’s card was issued before 2016, you have to visit a customer service centre to activate the e-wallet function. In Riga resident’s cards issued from 2016 the e-wallet function is activated at once. You can use your e-wallet to pay for parking services after loading e-money to it.
